The Minnesota Democrat Party has a hate problem. Last week, prominent Minnesota Democratic staffer William Davis—the DFL research director and deputy communications director—wrote on Twitter that the U.S. Navy’s newly-christened USS Minneapolis-St. Paul, a Freedom-class littoral combat ship, was a “murder boat.” He attempted an apology and then deleted his Twitter account.
But the same prominent DFL staffer was “suspended” last year, after suggesting that Republicans should be beheaded. Specifically, in response to a DFL social media post that said election day—November 6—was the day to “take back your country” from Republicans, Davis replied: “11.7-bring them to the guillotines.”
Now, only days after Davis made the “murder boat” remark, another DFL leader has made a hateful remark against the U.S. military
This time, Laine Scheuble, a volunteer “director” in Minnesota’s sixth Congressional district, decided to bash Congressman Tom Emmer’s son—simply because his son just became a U.S. Marine.
In response to a tweet by Congressman Emmer congratulating his son for what obviously is a tremendous achievement, Scheuble wrote that Emmer’s son would now murder civilians as a member of the U.S. armed forces.
Going forward, the Minnesota DFL should probably start worrying about its own tweets, not the President’s.
In fairness, the DFL removed Scheuble from his post. But it is likely the comments made by Scheuble and Davis are now mainstream on the far Left—the DFL can better-police its officials, but comments such as these are quite common on social media among leftwing activists.
It isn’t just that the comments disparage the U.S. military and those who have served with time-worn tropes about U.S. soldiers murdering civilians, when the fighting force on earth most concerned with avoiding civilian casualties is the U.S. military.
It’s even more basic. The far-left is running hot with hate. Democrat politicians have called for their supporters to harass Republicans in public, and their supporters are following through on those requests. The media then reports this without any outrage, if it is reported at all, just like it is any other news story.
We live in an age where the left labels American traditionalists, who love all people but don’t agree with all people, as hateful bigots. And bigots shouldn’t just be ignored, they should be attacked and at the very least removed from the public square.
We live in an age where the left and its media allies talk incessantly about rightwing hate groups that nobody has even heard about, and an unsupported spike in “hate crimes,” while it is commonplace to see Antifa-types assaulting conservatives—including women.
To be fair, the left thinks that they are fighting actual Nazis, spurred on by the rhetoric of their politicians. For example, Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, along with Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, have just compared U.S. border patrol to a “concentration camp.”
Nevermind that the immigration policy that the far left is advocating, and the one the Trump administration is trying to do away with, incentivizes bad people to treat young children as tickets into America. Nevermind that the only people seeming to act like Nazis—including by using violence to suppress speech they dislike—is the far left.
All irony and sense of perspective seems to be lost on these people. Only several years after Senator Rand Paul was viscously attacked by his neighbor, and only several years after a lunatic shot up a baseball field where Congressional Republicans were practicing, almost killing Congressman Steve Scalise, far-left rhetoric remains a threat to public safety.
