Tax-Funded Abortions Hit All-Time High in Minnesota

Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL) have found, using data from the Department of Human Services (DHS), that tax-funded abortions are at an all-time high in the state of Minnesota.

For the third straight year, data has shown that abortions funded by Minnesota taxpayers have hit a record high. Taxpayers have given abortion providers $1.06 million for a total of 4,356 abortions and state-funded abortions have risen 28 percent since 2013.

This wasn’t always the case in Minnesota. A 1995 state Supreme Court decision, Doe v. Gomez, began the mandates on state funding for pregnant women who receive state assistance. The Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion organization,  conducted a literature review that exposed the correlation between government assistance, and more abortions.

Minnesota’s policy of Medicaid-funded abortions “allows Planned Parenthood to offer ‘free’ abortions to economically vulnerable women. Women, children, and taxpayers pay the price” says Scott Fischbach, executive director of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL), in a statement.

Planned Parenthood can take most of the credit for the increase in state-funded abortions as their tax-funded abortions have shot upward by 196 percent since 2011. In 2017, Planned Parenthood performed a record high of all state abortions, a stunning 59 percent of them. Translated into state taxpayer dollars, that’s $560,895.

Minnesota Legislators are committed to protecting life and have begun to introduce bills that would limit the scope of Planned Parenthood’s abortion practices, which would, in turn, save Minnesota taxpayers from having to pay for more and more abortions every year.
