The Shakopee Police Department is investigating a shooting death that took place in their city on Monday evening during an apparent home invasion break-in and one person is in custody.
According to a press release by the department, police were called to a residence on the 2400 block of Paha Circle just before 7:30 p.m. on a report of a shooting.
Arriving officers found a 65-year-old male inside the home with gunshot wounds. He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
Brady Daniel Zipoy, 23, was taken into custody at the scene and is currently being held in Scott County Jail on probable cause second-degree murder. Police said they do not believe that Zipoy and the victim knew each other, but they do not believe there is any danger to the general public.
The victim was identified on Tuesday by family as Timothy Guion, according to a report on the shooting. Guion’s gated home is located on the land of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community.
A description of police dispatch audio related to the incident said that Guion was shot in the head during a break-in through the front door. Guion also reportedly tried to shoot the intruder.
Zipoy’s Facebook page indicates that he is a US marine veteran and that he was attending Normandale Community College. A check of Minnesota court records revealed no criminal history for Zipoy.
