Rep. Ilhan Omar participated in an online event Tuesday night with a vlogger who once said “America deserved 9/11.”

The event was hosted by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and streamed live on Twitch, where the congresswomen played the video game “Among Us” with several other popular gamers. The event was intended to motivate young voters to get to the polls and was viewed more than five million times.

At the beginning of the event, Ocasio-Cortez credited Hasan Piker with organizing the livestream, saying he “wrangled” it together.

Piker, a former contributor for the progressive news channel The Young Turks, mocked Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Texas during an August 2019 livestream, according to The Wrap.

“This guy has the understanding of foreign policy of, like, a 12-year-old. What the f—,” Piker said. “What the f— is wrong with this dude? Didn’t he go to war and like literally lose his eye because some mujahideen — a brave f—ing soldier — f—ed his eye hole with their d—?”

“America deserved 9/11, dude. F— it, I’m saying it,” he added.

Crenshaw is a Navy SEAL and Purple Heart recipient who lost his right eye in an IED blast in Afghanistan, his biography states.

Piker later admitted that his comments were “inappropriate” and that he should have “used more precise” language.

“It’s messed up that I would even give the opportunity to the right to try to morally grandstand on an issue like this, when they are 100% responsible for all the bloodshed that’s been caused,” he said during an appearance on The Young Turks.

Omar was harshly criticized in March of last year after she described 9/11 as “some people did something.”
