In North Minneapolis two toddlers were hit during a shooting that police say happened “between two groups of people known to officers” today. One child has died and the other is hospitalized:

Minneapolis police say the shooting happened about 11:30 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Penn Avenue North and Lowry Avenue North. Officers are still on the scene, and the area is closed to traffic.

Shortly after the shooting was reported, the victims arrived at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. Police say a 2-year-old child died at the hospital, and a 15-month-old child is injured.

Police would not confirm if the shooting was gang-related, but they did say the shooting was not random and was between two groups of people known to officers.
