On the first day of the Minnesota legislative session, Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus held a press conference outlining the priorities for the new legislative session.

Led by Senate Majority Paul Gazelka the Republican caucus outlined five priorities with actual legislation to be introduced later this week.

The priorities include addressing the growing mental health crisis, repealing regulatory overreach on childcare providers. lowering health care costs, tackling government fraud, and reducing the tax burden in Minnesota.

Senator Roger Chamberlain will lead the efforts to make tax filing easier with tax conformity and trying to reduce taxes.

“It’s great to have everyone’s families here for the first-day-of-session ceremonies, but I am ready to get back to work,” said Sen. Chamberlain. “I spent a lot of time last summer and fall talking to folks I represent, and I kept hearing the same concerns – ‘make child care more affordable, do something about health care costs, and get government fraud, waste, and abuse under control.’ Those are the issues we will focus on in the early part of the session.”

Republican Party of Minnesota chairwoman Jennifer Carnahan praised the Senate Caucus  “While none of these issues will be fixed overnight, I am confident with the comprehensive plans from our Senators as they strive to improve the lives of Minnesota families from childbirth to retirement and everything in between.”
