Minnesota Medical Association Sets Confiscation of Firearms as Priority in 2020

Minnesota Medical Association (MMA) is no gaining attention for pushing left-wing policies not related to healthcare.

Minnesota Medical Association is a non-profit that claims to represent over 10,000 physicians who released their priorities for the 2020 legislative session.

Healthcare access and costs have been shown to be a top issue of concern for voters in the past election and most pollsters believe that Healthcare will dominate the conversation again in 2020.

Recently concerns have been raised that nonprofits and organizations that are meant to support healthcare workers and patients have become tools of the far left and often push legislation that has nothing to do with healthcare.

Minnesota Medical Association (MMA) is no gaining attention for pushing left-wing policies not related to healthcare.

In the recent report outlining priorities for 2020, Gun Control is listed as number 2, above any policy that would drive down the cost of healthcare or increase access to patients.

The priorities outlined by MMA include

2.    Prevent firearm injury and death
a.    Expand criminal background checks to all firearm transfers and sales
b.    Enact a “red flag” law to allow law enforcement to protect those who may be a danger to themselves or others
c.    Authorize the use of firearm ownership data for public health research or epidemiologic investigation

While the MMA doesn’t list the reasons why confiscation of firearms is a priority the policies proposed have been debunked as ineffective to stop violence and could violate constitutional rights.

The National Rifle Association has raised concerns that removing firearms from citizens without any due process, can put citizens at risk.

Additional concerns about the proposal from MMA have been raised from gun owners that say the increase in regulation will prevent people from lending firearms to hunt and will change owning firearms from a right to a privilege.

Universal background checks, while inconsequential to public safety, are a necessary piece of an overall puzzle that will transform the U.S. right to keep and bear arms into a European style privilege reserved for the wealthy elite who can afford to comply with burdensome, bureaucratic procedures to acquire a firearm.

Chris Cox from the NRA writes “Universal background checks, while inconsequential to public safety, are a necessary piece of an overall puzzle that will transform the U.S. right to keep and bear arms into a European style privilege reserved for wealthy elite who can afford to comply with burdensome, bureaucratic procedures to acquire a firearm.”
