The chair of the Michigan Republican Party claimed during a Friday press conference that faulty tabulating software was used in 47 counties across the battleground state.
The Antrim County Clerk’s Office admitted Wednesday that the “unofficial results posted at 4 a.m. this morning were incorrect and have been removed.”
On Wednesday morning, Trump was trailing Biden by 3,000 votes in Antrim County, according to the Detroit Free Press. After a manual recount, Trump now leads Biden by 2,494 votes in the northern Michigan county.
“The vote totals counted by the election software did not match the printed tabulator tapes, which official results are based upon. Because of this, the printed tabulated tapes from each precinct will be counted manually and revised unofficial results will be posted,” said a statement provided Wednesday to WLNS.
Michigan GOP Chairwoman Laura Cox said the party is “highly disturbed” by Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s lack of transparency.
“If all this wasn’t enough, in Antrim County, ballots were counted for Democrats that were meant for Republicans, causing a 6,000 vote swing against our candidate. The county clerk came forward and said tabulating software glitched and caused a miscalculation of the votes. Since then, we have now discovered that 47 counties used this same software in the same capacity,” said Cox.
“Antrim County had to hand count all of the ballots and these counties that used the software need to closely examine their results for similar discrepancies,” she added.
Cox criticized Benson for failing to tell voters “how many votes were left to be counted, often citing figures that had no apparent basis in reality.”
“Repeatedly in interviews with the media, Secretary of State Benson continued to state that there were about 100,000 ballots to be counted despite the fact that tens of thousands of ballots continued to be added to the city’s (Detroit) total and that those interviews were hours apart,” she said.
RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel joined Cox for the press conference. She said a whistleblower informed the party that their supervisor asked them to illegally mark mail-in ballots containing no received-by date with a date of Nov. 3, the legally mandated cut-off date for returning mail-in ballots.
“Right here in Michigan, just last night in Oakland County, we found 2,000 ballots that had been given to Democrats but were Republican ballots due to a clerical error, and this took place in Rochester Hills,” said McDaniel.
“In Wayne County, Republican poll watchers were denied their legal right to monitor the election and purposely kept in the dark, both literally and figuratively, with poll workers blocking windows and padlocking doors,” she added.
