MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Erin Maye Quade has defeated Ali Jimenez-Hopper 52%-47%.

Ali Jimenez-Hopper has portrayed herself as the wife of a veteran, a minority, a mother, and someone who can identify with the everyday people of the 57A.

Erin Maye Quade portrayed herself as an activist for LGBTQ+ community, a woman, and a minority who can identify with the people of 57A.

This open seat race, which was once held by Rep. Tara Mack before scandal plagued her tenure at the Capitol has seen some controversy.

House District 57A includes most of Apple Valley, parts of Lakeville, and Rosemount.

Controversy surrounded both campaigns for a time.

At the 57A endorsing convention, Jimenez-Hopper spoke on identity politics stating that issues, not identity are what mattered to constituents. Members of the DFL called Jimenez-Hopper racist and homophobic.

Maye Quade’s campaign also suffered from ill-timed controversy. As Alpha News reported, Maye Quade worked in Rep. Keith Ellison’s office while simultaneously running for state house. Maye Quade’s job with Ellison raised questions about her schedule and whether taxpayers were paying for her to campaign, which is in violation of congressional ethics guidelines. Controversy surrounding tweets of Maye Quade’s also plagued her campaign.
