Matt Schmit Loses Re-Election Bid

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Mike Goggin (R) has defeated Matt Schmit (D) 54-46. Senate District 21, which includes Scott and Goodhue counties.

Sen. Schmit, according to his website is a university instructor and small business owner. Sen. Schmitt was first elected in 2012.

Sen. Schmit faced a tough opponent this time around. With both House seats currently being held by Republicans, and the District turning red for Mitt Romney in 2012, a well-known face made his bid for re-election tough.

Mike Goggen is a pillar in the area. As reported by Alpha News, Goggen’s father ran the Red Wing Shoe Company. According to his website, Goggen “is currently a certified project management professional for Prairie Island Nuclear Power Plant.”
