Las Vegas & Mogadishu: Minnesota Liberals Politicize The Dead

The Las Vegas shooting earlier this month killed 59 people and injured hundreds. The Regressive Left immediately politicized the horror by making it all about gun control. Not a few progressives, who seem like genuinely unpleasant people, said they weren’t particularly bothered given the fact that the victims were attending a country western music festival, and thus more likely than not to be Trump supporters. They hate you, as commentator Kurt Schlichter never tires of saying, no matter what you do. They hate you for who you are.

If liberal Minnesota politicians went out of their way to express sincere condolences, I missed it. Stephen Berger, 44, of Shorewood, died in the slaughter leaving his wife and three children ages 8, 11, & 15 behind. Did I miss bridge lightings and city council resolutions of sympathy and condemnation? Did local media do feature stories about what a wonderful man Berger was? Of course not; likely a Trump supporter.

This same month an enormous car bomb exploded 8,308 miles away in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, killing more than three hundred innocent souls, including a recently minted Minnesota man who had returned there. Rep. Ilhan Omar’s “cultural husband” was also there but fortunately was uninjured. She’s currently divorcing her brother/husband. Diverse enough for you yet?

The Eiffel Tower went dark and the usual platitudes were uttered in the same pathetic routine of generalized grief that actually means nothing but serves as a marker of virtue to those who engage in it. Or so they think.

In Minnesota, the reaction was very different from the one when the Americans died. From the Governor to the Mayor of Minneapolis, the reaction was over the top, embarrassing at times but also telling. What it tells is not good.

Somalia is the world’s most failed state, worse even than the Congo, Sudan, Chad, Yemen and Afghanistan. Famine between 2010-12 killed 260,000 people while hunger during the early 1990’s dispatched another 220,000. Tribalism, lethal infighting and hoarding by armed troops were said to be behind these figures. Life expectancy is 51 years, with the average woman bearing 6 children. Maternal and infant mortality are among the world’s highest.

Only 38% over the age of 15 can read and write, dropping to 25% for women. The average child spends only 3 years in school and 49% of children are in the workforce. The gross domestic product is a barely measurable $600. The chief exports are livestock, bananas, animal hides, fish, charcoal and scrap metal. In 2017, this is the stone age. (source for all statistics: the CIA World Factbook)

The average IQ in Somalia is 68, according to researchers Richard Lynn, a British psychologist, and Tatu Vanhanen, a Finnish political scientist, who analysed IQ studies from 113 countries, and from subsequent work by Jelte Wicherts, a Dutch psychologist.

Unfortunately, backwards cultures bring with them not only their backward ways but also their cultural conflicts. Somalia is routinely ravaged by Islamist fighting, with Al-Shabaab the local terrorist group associated with Al Qaeda. Not a few Somali men transplanted into Minnesota have either recruited others into terrorist activities or returned themselves to engage in violence, terror and the murder of innocents in the name of their religion.

Barbaric female genital mutilation exists in Minnesota because of a lack of assimilation to civilized Western norms and social pressure that accompanies some groups. Governor Dayton and Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges have remained shamefully silent in the face of this horror visited upon young girls now resident here.  In June I wrote about Sen. Tom Cotton addressing the Center of the American Experiment at its annual dinner:

“Turning to the realities of Somali immigration, he informed the audience that Minnesota spends more than 120 million dollars annually on that community. He noted that more than 80% of them do not speak English at home. He pointed out the obvious and ongoing problem of Somalis joining terrorist groups both here and abroad. He truthfully said that there is little cultural integration of them nor any particularly noteworthy contributions to wider society from them.”

High rates of welfare use and over representation in daycare fraud can also be added to this mix. Radical, terrorist linked mosque Dar Al-Farooq in Bloomington is never reported on honestly by our craven and dishonest local media. It was bombed two months ago but the FBI has refused to call it terrorism. Just a few days ago there was a claim of “vandalism.” Forgive my skepticism when it comes to this mosque.

Mark Dayton turned his governor’s mansion blue one night, the 35W bridge was similarly lit and Mayor Hodges preened with an official city declaration of condemnation of the Mogadishu horror. I’m with Mark Steyn, who said when he was recently in town, that he opposed “sentimentalized grief.” Not so Minnesota virtue signaling liberals.

Yet if such commemorations are going to be held, then do it consistently. The dead and wounded in Las Vegas, to say nothing of Stephen Berger of Shorewood, deserved the same public remembrances as those who perished in the Mogadishu car bombing. Of course, reacting to every such incident in the same way only anesthetizes us to them, presumably the opposite reaction intended by these virtuous frauds.

The selective concern gives the game away, of course. There was no voter base in the upcoming Minneapolis mayoral election that was thought to be worthy of pandering to, apparently, in the Las Vegas attack, i.e., white people. But Mogadishu, with its rich underclass of, somehow, Minnesota voters? Now there’s a constituency liberals instinctively understand. After all, their policies are intentionally designed to create and nourish for everyone a dependency on government and on citizens more productive and successful than they.

Local media were particularly abject. When terrorist-linked CAIR’s poster child for the anti-Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Ilhan Omar complained on Twitter (as instructed) about less than obsequious local media coverage concerning the Mogadishu blast, reporters from the Star Tribune obsequiously offered obsequious explanations, insisting that they were indeed obsequious and for her to look at other local media outlets which were not obsequious.

Few Somalis would qualify for admission into America under a merit based immigration system, which can’t come soon enough if we are to avoid becoming a Third World country. Those who are here deserve the same respect, dignity and equal treatment under the law as anyone else, but also no more than that. We have no obligation to regress to the failed cultures of those lucky enough to be allowed entry into the greatest country in the world. Blasphemy laws have no place in Western Civilization.

By pandering to Somalis for votes in the wake of the Mogadishu attacks, while ignoring the Americans who died in Las Vegas, liberal Minnesota politicians only further divide a divided country.

You’d be mistaken, however, if you think that is not their goal, among other things. Minnesotans would do well to read French author Michel Houellebecq’s “Submission.”
