Lacy Johnson posted his announcement video on Twitter on Aug. 14. “I believe that family is the basic building block of any strong and productive society,” he says in the video. The video gained quite the response on Twitter, garnering more than 350k views and over 120K views on Facebook.

“You do know that they are using you as a stooge? Don’t you think that it’s odd that you are running for their party against another POC?” one Twitter user said in response to his video. Johnson responded by saying “who’s in charge of our poverty-ridden cities, our police departments, our non-performing school systems, etc?  Blacks have been voting Democrats for decades. Being the non-stooge you are, please educate me on our Return on Vote (ROV).”

Johnson’s platform is pro-Trump and pro-Israel. Johnson wants to increase competition in the public school system and supports proven strategies to reduce the achievement gap.

Johnson also appeared on Fox and Friends to discuss Israel’s decision to reject entry to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-MI). “The government of Israel was well within its rights to deny her and its expected that they would do that. Ms. Omar has openly called for the boycott, divestment, and sanction of Israel and, as such, she has basically made herself an enemy of that nation,” he said.
