U.S. congressional candidate Kendall Qualls has launched his first TV ad and has been awarded the highest rank of the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Young Guns program.

Qualls, who is running to represent Minnesota’s Third Congressional District, has earned the title of Young Gun from the NRCC, a rank reserved for the most competitive candidates.

The recognition of Qualls’ momentum comes a day after he released his first TV ad, titled “Called.” The ad focuses on the opportunities and “inherent greatness” of the United States.

“Only in America can someone once called ‘ghetto kid’ and ‘trailer trash’ aspire to serve in the United States Congress, and this ad is a testament that where you came from doesn’t have to be where you end up because of the inherent greatness of our country,” Qualls said in a press release

The 30-second ad goes through Qualls’ transformation from a young kid who was once mugged when getting off the bus in Harlem, to a soldier in the U.S. military, to, potentially, a congressman. The ad buy for Qualls’ ad cost six figures, according to his campaign.

The NRCC’s Young Gun designation is reserved for the “most competitive” candidates who “have met a series of rigorous goals and surpassed program benchmarks to establish a clear path to victory.”

The promotion of Qualls to the Young Gun rank draws similarities between him and congressional candidate Tyler Kistner, who has also achieved the Young Gun rank. Both men are veterans, Christians, fathers and running competitive campaigns against their Democrat opponents in Minnesota.

“This award represents the latest milestone in our campaign’s efforts to defeat Dean Phillips and bring balanced, sensible leadership back to the Third District,” said Qualls.

“When he campaigned two years ago, Dean described ‘thoughtful leadership’ as voting with party leaders 70 percent of the time. Since then, he’s voted for the destructive agenda of Nancy Pelosi and her left wing allies 100 percent of the time,” Qualls continued.

“That’s not thoughtful leadership, that’s lockstep allegiance to harmful priorities such as defunding the police, destroying private and employer-based health insurance, and tax hikes on the middle class. The Third District deserves better.”
