A police officer was killed Friday after a man deliberately drove his vehicle into a barricade outside the U.S. Capitol, and Rep. Ilhan Omar encouraged her followers to consider how much worse the tragedy would have been if the suspect had a gun.
Twenty-five-year-old Noah Green drove his car into two U.S. Capitol Police officers standing guard at a barricade and then ran at them with a knife. He was shot to death.
The deceased officer — the second to die on-duty this year — was identified as William “Billy” Evans. It’s still unclear if the officer was struck by the suspect’s knife or if he died from the vehicle’s impact, according to the Associated Press.
“Heartbroken to learn another CP was killed while protecting the Capitol. My thoughts and prayers go out to the officer’s family and the entire Capitol Police force,” Omar wrote on Twitter. “The death toll would have been worse if the assailant had an AR-15 instead of a knife.”

A Republican operative in Minnesota said Omar’s “callous dismissal” of the officer’s death, which she used to “push a partisan agenda,” is “disgusting and disheartening.”
“Her constituents and the people of Minnesota deserve better,” she said.
Other blue-check liberals immediately blamed the attack on “white nationalist terrorism” and “Trump insurrectionists.” The suspect, however, was black and an alleged Nation of Islam supporter.
