Ilhan Omar Splits with Husband, Questions About Marriage History Still Stand

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has split from her husband, Ahmed Hirsi, and is headed for her second divorce.

The news of the split between Hirsi and Congresswoman Omar comes as questions about her questionable marriage history are gaining traction. Congresswoman Omar may have illegally married her brother to get him U.S. citizenship in 2009.

“I can’t comment on that. I’m sorry, I just can’t say anything” Hirsi says in response to questions about his marriage with Congresswoman Omar asked by the Daily Mail. A family friend also told the Daily Mail that Hirsi only stays in Omar’s home “when Ilhan is in DC” and when she is in Minneapolis, he stays at his house.

On Jul. 23 Judicial Watch filed an ethics complaint to the Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Office of Congressional Ethics, David Skaggs, calling for a full investigation into Congresswoman Omar for potential crimes due to allegations that she may have married her biological brother.

Congresswoman Omar legally married Hirsi in 2002 and has three children with him. She reportedly split from Hirsi first in 2008, but didn’t legally divorce him. She then marries Ahmed Elmi who has been accused of being her biological brother in 2009 and doesn’t divorce him until 2017. In 2018, Congresswoman Omar reunites with Hirsi in a civil ceremony. Now, in 2019, it is reported that she has separated from Hirsi once again.

Congresswoman Omar has refused to answer any questions regarding her marriage history. However, an email, written by Omar’s campaign manager Ben Goldfarb, was uncovered recently that was that describes his heavy frustration with Congresswoman Omar from not addressing the issue head-on adding that making a statement for her is “impossible without making it even more confusing.”
