Governor Walz To Keep Hotline For Reporting Stay at Home Violations

"I vehemently disagree with Governor Walz on the effectiveness of this hotline. Rather than serve as a resource, this hotline will only spread fear and mistrust amongst neighbors and communities. We are not a communist country, and we have constitutional rights here in the United States of America."

Governor Tim Walz denied a request from Republicans in the Senate to shut down a “stay at home” reporting hotline. The hotline allows citizens to report “Stay At Home Executive Order Violations”. The site where the number is found also has an email address that can be used for the same purpose.

Governor Walz said the hotline “allows people just to try and keep their neighbors safe and serves an educational function if people see someone who isn’t informed about the stay-at-home order,” reports the MNSRC (Minnesota State Republican Caucus).

The MNSRC also quotes State Senator Jeff Howe as saying, “I vehemently disagree with Governor Walz on the effectiveness of this hotline. Rather than serve as a resource, this hotline will only spread fear and mistrust amongst neighbors and communities. We are not a communist country, and we have constitutional rights here in the United States of America.”

Breaking the “Stay-at-Home” order for a non-essential purpose is punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. Some activities classified as non-essential are sports games, attending church services with over ten people and going to work for many sectors. Some activities deemed essential by the order are buying off-sale liquor, getting an abortion, and picking up drive-thru food.
