Congressional House Republicans have set their sights on removing progressive Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar from her committee assignments.

Citing Omar’s history of apparent anti-Semitism, House Republicans will try to have her removed from her committees, according Fox News’s Chad Pergram. Omar presently sits on the House Budget and Foreign Affairs committees.

Omar’s critics have ample evidence of her controversial positions regarding Israel beginning years prior to her election. In 2012 she tweeted that “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.”

She later trivialized this statement in 2019, saying she was merely upset about the 2012 Gaza offensive. The post was just “the only words I could think about expressing at that moment,” she said during a televised interview.

Her time in office has been marred by several similar remarks, which have grabbed headlines in outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, NPR and many others.

Omar presently maintains associations with the BDS movement and lightning-rod figures who also have been accused of anti-Semitism.

One such associate is Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a fellow “Squad” member who sympathizes with the Muslim Brotherhood, according to the Daily Wire. Omar also maintains a connection to Women’s March organizer and alleged anti-Semite Linda Sarsour, who once called for a “jihad” against the Donald Trump administration.

Republicans reportedly plan to take action against Omar in the form of an amendment to an existing resolution to remove freshman Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia from her committees.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer signaled his commitment to stripping Greene of her posts Wednesday morning. “It is clear there is no alternative to holding a Floor vote on the resolution to remove Rep. Greene from her committee assignments,” he wrote.

Democrats say Greene should not be allowed to serve on committees based on controversial comments she’s made in the past. Some, like the Democrat chair of the House Rules Committee, Jim McGovern, even claim Greene is not “fit to serve” in Congress, per NBC.

Omar herself spoke out about the ongoing skepticism of her committee positions Wednesday afternoon, accusing those who oppose her of hypocrisy.
