Party-endorsed candidate Mary Shapiro has defeated challenger Kris Newcomer in the 48A GOP primary. Shapiro defeated Newcomer 80.61% – 19.39%.
This local race has garnered quite a bit of attention due to Kris Newcomer donating many times to DFL campaigns over the last several years.
Incumbent Yvonne Selcer decided not to run for reelection, Shapiro takes on DFL candidate Laurie Pryor in November. In 2014 Selcer barely defeated republican Kirk Stensrud 50% – 49.8 %.
