FOX 9 & Guns: Guess The Narrative

Several astute readers pointed out FOX 9 news television coverage of the recent gun legislation heard in the House of Representatives as hopelessly biased.

The observations that each submission had in common were: FOX 9 clearly made it seem like more people testified for gun control than against. Second, all the “experts” were for it except a few crazy gun nuts. Even then, they were dishonestly edited to seem like they lied. Finally, for a media obsessed with race, they didn’t mention that African American gun club testified on why the DFL bill would hurt blacks.

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, the reporting was even handed and straight forward. While cable FOX News had as its famous slogan “Fair & Balanced,” the broadcast channels of FOX affiliates vary widely in their, well, fairness and balance.

For example, Daniel Ward II, of the African American Heritage Gun Club, noted that African-Americans are often harder-pressed than most to defend their rights — and are concentrated in Minneapolis and St. Paul, where gun stores don’t exist. Traveling to gun stores in the suburbs — required under the background check bill — would be especially onerous, Ward argued.

You didn’t see any coverage of this on FOX 9 however. People tire of a media that filters reality through its left wing lense. As someone once said, media have chosen sides.

Indeed they have and it’s not the middle or the right in this country that they have chosen. Trust and credibility in media is at an all time low. They did it to themselves, to be sure, but they seem in no hurry to change reporting and coverage in order to regain it.

The first reader who emailed me gets this week’s $50 Visa card. Thank you to everyone who submitted. Please keep your suggestions coming and we’ll announce another winner next Friday.
