An open State Senate seat has prompted a legislative battle in Senate District 42.  Local Republican activist Candy Sina is running to fill the seat. The seat is currently held by retiring DFL State Sentor Bev Scalze. SD42 encompasses Arden Hills, Gem Lake, Little Canada, Mounds View, Shoreview and Vadnais Heights, as well as parts of Blaine, Roseville and Spring Lake Park. Sina is the Republican-endorsed candidate, has worked in the dental industry for over thirty years, and is currently a financial coordinator. Sina says she has deep roots in the district’s politics, having worked on several local and congressional campaigns.

Sina says she is passionate about education reform and fixing issues with MNSure. She also says she wants to fight for senior issues, particularly the taxation of social security, explaining that the taxation of said benefits is “unfair.”

Sina’s opponent is DFL Representative Jason Isaacson, who is running for State Senate in-lieu of his House seat. Isaacson is a college professor and was first elected to the House in 2012.
