Mayo-trained physician Dr. Neil Shah announced Tuesday that he is running for the Republican nomination in Minnesota’s 2022 gubernatorial race.
According to a press release, Shah is a physician, small business owner, and the son of immigrants “who arrived 50 years ago in search of the American dream.”
Shah said he was inspired to enter the race because of his “deep concern” for his state and its leadership.
“We cannot afford to miss this opportunity to Save Minnesota from the career politicians that have trampled on us for too long,” Shah said in a statement. “We need someone who sounds and looks different and who can offer real change from the outside. I am that candidate.”
Shah said his top campaign themes include “stopping the woke mob in our streets and our classrooms,” taking Minnesota back “from career politicians who have failed us,” and “never again” allowing the “same failed COVID-19 policies” to harm Minnesotans.
“We can’t put forward someone using the same playbook Republicans have been losing with for years. We need someone different who is not a career politician and who looks and acts different to win back the governor’s mansion,” he said.
Other Republicans seeking to challenge Gov. Tim Walz include Dr. Scott Jensen, businessman Mike Marti, and Lexington Mayor Mike Murphy.
