DISPATCH AUDIO: Father and child shot at White Bear Lake boat launch

The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office is seeking information related to the shooting of a father and child at a White Bear Lake boat launch on Monday

A father and his 5-year-old daughter were shot at a White Bear Lake boat launch on Monday afternoon, and the child is in serious condition, according to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office.

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office released a statement on Monday afternoon that said they are investigating a double shooting involving a father and 5-year-old child that occurred at a White Bear Lake boat launch.

The release said that on Monday, June 8, at approximately 4:30 p.m., RCSO deputies were dispatched to a “shots fired” call at Ramsey Beach in White Bear Lake. While Deputies were responding, an adult male called 9-1-1 stating he and his daughter were both shot and he was driving to a hospital for medical attention.

Deputies responded and determined that the shooting occurred near the boat launch parking area of the county park. At the scene, deputies interviewed potential witnesses and collected evidence. The RCSO deputies also interviewed the adult victim at a local hospital and are currently pursuing suspect leads.

The 24-year-old adult male victim sustained a non-life threating gunshot wound. His five-year-old daughter is in serious, but stable condition, the release said.

According to recorded police dispatch audio, there was initial confusion about where exactly the shooting occurred and the victims were not immediately located, but were reported to be self-transporting to the hospital.

Subsequent dispatch audio described the shooting location at 5050 Lake Avenue, which is a county park and boat launch on the northwest side of White Bear Lake. A witness described hearing 3 “pops” and described at least three “sporty” cars leaving the parking lot at a high rate of speed. Responders located bullet casings and blood at the scene.

Several vehicles were later described in the audio as possibly involved and some of the occupants were described as having firearms. The suspect vehicle was described in the audio as a black Ford Raptor.

The RCSO was assisted by the White Bear Lake Police Department in the immediate aftermath and the case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office at 651-266-7320. Information can be shared anonymously and confidentially.
