Commentary: Merely electing a Democrat causes crises

Why is the president rejecting common sense and governing in opposition to his vow of unifying the nation?

President Joe Biden is not a centrist politician, but he also didn’t campaign as Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren; yet somehow he’s governing like them. The hard left knew they could never get their warped policies elected nationally, so the former vice president served as a vehicle to power.

Biden may be a one-term placeholder, grooming the next ruling class leader, but his record-breaking executive orders could cost his party control of Congress faster than his fellow septuagenarian predecessor.

Take the preposterous COVID “relief” bill, which is a pork-filled Democrat wish list. It may poll well among hoodwinked Americans but Republican opposition stuck to facts and, moreover, the party represents the majority of Americans’ thinking on two major topics:

Immigration

Former President Donald Trump didn’t finish the border wall, though many believe his policies served as one, slowing massive migrant surges that occurred under Barack Obama. Biden needlessly moved to kill Trump’s successful agreements with Latin American nations, like Mexico.

Instead, he set up a temporary freeze on deportations and will offer a path to citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants. These actions encourage migrants to make a run for the border. The number of children crossing this year is on pace to break all-time highs.

And, COVID super spreader events be damned, the notorious cages — now called “containers” — to detain children who cross alone have returned.

Most Americans disapprove of Biden’s recent orders reducing deportations. It’s understandable when nearly 200 people who crossed illegally were released last week after testing positive for coronavirus.

“The Biden administration seems determined to reverse all policies of the Trump administration without regard to consequences,” Sen. John Cornyn said Wednesday. “They took a tough situation and made it worse. People who are coming across the border are overwhelming the capacity of border communities. This is the start of another humanitarian crisis.”

Unaccompanied migrant children have tripled in just two weeks, with over 12,000 apprehensions per day in just the Rio Grande sector. Despite all evidence available, Biden’s Homeland Security chief recently said there’s no crisis.

Sadly, this fiasco is an entirely predictable consequence of Biden’s calamitous decisions. With pressure from the left and right, the president still refuses to address the topic — and likely won’t in his first prime-time address tonight.

“We have a crisis that’s entirely self inflicted,” Former DHS Secretary Chad Wolf recently told Fox Business. “The Biden administration has not only dismantled a network of policies and programs that kept such a surge at bay but they’re sending a signal to those families that it’s OK to take that journey because once you get to our border, you will be let in and will stay here for years.”

Schools

Abandoning a feeble pledge to open most schools during his first 100 days — by May 1 when another long teacher vacation beckons? — the Biden administration pretends it can’t occur without $130 billion allocated in the COVID-19 bill. Nonsense. Public schools have over 10 billion unspent dollars from last year’s stimulus boondoggle. And to top it off, only a paltry five percent of the money will be spent in 2021.

Real science and real-life examples have long shown that reopening schools poses no significant health risk to students or adults; unfortunately the president’s party is owned by an increasingly corrupted CDC and anti-science teachers unions, happily crushing kids for more than a year, as they take money from hard-working taxpayers. Meanwhile the majority of private schools, and public schools in areas where unions aren’t as powerful, opened months ago, sans issues. In most large cities, teachers unions continue to be hostage takers, destroying lives. Showing no remorse, many educators skip the vaccine line and still refuse to work.

Corporate media lives in insouciance and cheers this on. Do they realize eight in ten Americans want their kids back in school — now?

Bottom line: as I wrote last month, why is the president rejecting common sense and governing in opposition to his vow of unifying the nation?
