The city of Bagley in northern Minnesota has imposed a curfew on residents after the city has experienced a spike in property crimes since Gov. Tim Walz ordered a peacetime emergency declaration.

The city of Bagley in northern Minnesota has imposed a curfew on residents after the city has experienced a spike in property crimes since Gov. Tim Walz ordered a peacetime emergency declaration which included the shutdown of many businesses in the state.

The notice was posted on the city’s police department Facebook page on Tuesday and stated that the Bagley City Council had recently convened in regular session and approved of a Bagley City Curfew ordinance.

The ordinance states that the city has experienced an increase in crime impacting local businesses and the business district since Gov. Tim Walz’ shutdown went into effect, and that immediate action was necessary to protect public safety and welfare.

The curfew will be in effect between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., seven days a week until at least May 10 with the possibility of extension as followed by The Governor’s Executive Order and Peacetime Emergency Order, the post stated.

The order states that individuals shall stay in their homes and not travel through or congregate in the streets, walkways, waterways, alleyways, parking lots and other public spaces in the city except as otherwise provided in the order.

Persons exempted from the curfew include police and emergency workers, utility workers, active duty military and healthcare providers.

The ordinance states that the curfew was implemented in the interest of “good public order.”
