An Albany School District teacher and coach is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student and may have acted inappropriately with another 14-year-old student, according to charges filed in Stearns County, but he’s out of custody and future hearings in the case are uncertain due to court delays related to the state’s COVID-19 response.

Daniel Sinclair Fragodt, 31, is a math teacher and coach for girls basketball, cross country and track and field in the Albany School District in the St. Cloud area of central Minnesota.

A 14-year-old girl initially reported that Fragodt had inappropriately touched her over her clothing several times including rubbing his feet on her thighs and brushing her buttocks with his hand, according to a report on the allegations. The girl then reported that Fragodt was having a relationship with another girl.

Police interviewed the second victim who initially denied having a sexual relationship with Fragodt, but eventually told authorities that when she was 17 she had sex with and engaged in other sex acts with Fragodt at various places including the school, a park-and-ride facility and other places in the city of Albany.

Fragodt has been charged with one felony count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a victim age 16-17 and involving a position of authority. Fragodt was also reportedly placed on administrative leave from the school district in late March.

Fragodt made his first court appearance on April 13 and has retained a private attorney. Court records indicate that Fragodt has was ordered conditionally released with zero bail by Judge Sarah E. Hennesy and the court record cites “pandemic event.” No future court date has been listed for Fragodt.

Alpha News previously reported that Minnesota courts are delaying hearings and that prisoners and suspects are being released from jails in response to the COVID-19 outbreak and Gov. Tim Walz’ declaration of a statewide peacetime emergency.
