BLM protested outside the home of Minnesota's Democrat Speaker of the House, despite the fact that she was once praised by national media and Bill de Blasio's Wife for her anti-racist positions.

A BLM organizer shouted down the Democrat State Speaker of the House Melissa Hortman from outside her home, accusing her and other white women of racism.

On Thursday, there was what appeared to be a BLM demonstration outside Hortman’s home, protesting that a white person is the Minnesota Speaker of the House. Hortman has been the speaker of the Democrat-controlled state house since 2019 and was once lauded on a national level for her anti-racist positions.

The protest appears to have been lead by Nekima Levy Armstrong. Armstrong describes herself as a “racial justice expert” who is “known for keeping it real.” She is the former president of the the Minneapolis NAACP but now appears to be more affiliated with the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement.

Armstrong apparently believes that “white women” are to blame for “perpetuating white supremacy” because some of them supported Hortman as she became the speaker of the house. According to Armstrong, Hortman is also to blame because she “stepped over black and brown women in the legislature.”

“Why couldn’t a black or brown woman be the speaker of the house why did it have to be Melissa Hortman,” Armstrong asked.

The BLM organizer then slammed white women who support her cause. “Too often you all will claim that you’re an ally and then you take up space that belongs to black or brown women,” she said.

Hortman was once the subject of praise, not scorn, for her stance on racial issues. Chirlane McCray, who is married to NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, tweeted a video published by Now This in 2017 of Hortman commending the work of Ilhan Omar and other prominent women and minorities in the MN State House.

Thursday’s protesters likely had no difficulty finding Hortman’s home, as she publicly lists what appears to be her address on the state House website. Not all representatives list their address.
