Alibi Drinkery vandalized with ‘kill Nazis,’ ‘fascist bar’

Alibi Drinkery in Lakeville, Minnesota, was vandalized over the weekend after refusing to submit to Gov. Tim Walz’s shutdown order, according to a video released by the owner.

“Fascist bar” was spray-painted across the front window of the establishment, according to the video shared by Alibi owner Lisa Zarza.

Other messages included: “Kill Nazis,” “Nazi scum,” “f– Trump,” “f– off Nazis,” “no KKK,” and “ACAB,” which stands for “all cops are bastards.”

In a Facebook post, Zarza said the vandalism was captured on surveillance cameras. The footage shows six suspects in hoods and masks carrying out the vandalism, she said.

Alibi Drinkery is one of dozens of restaurants that opened its doors last month in defiance of Gov. Walz’s COVID-19 orders. The Department of Public Safety is now seeking a five-year liquor license suspension against the establishment, according to a press release.

Additionally, Attorney General Keith Ellison has asked a Dakota County court to find Alibi Drinkery in contempt of court, since it has refused to comply with the court’s temporary injunction by keeping its doors open for in-person service.

“I take no pleasure in seeking this sanction, but I cannot allow this establishment to prolong Minnesota’s pain,” Ellison said in a statement. “Nearly all Minnesota businesses are meeting their responsibility to their communities to stop the spread of COVID-19, but this establishment is defying the court and the community and risking Minnesotans’ lives.”

Being found in contempt of court comes with a penalty of imprisonment or fines. In a similar case, Haven’s Garden in Lynd, Minnesota, was found in contempt of court and is now being fined $250 per day for remaining open.

Gov. Walz’s executive order expires January 10, but it’s still unclear if he will extend his shutdown of bars and restaurants for a second time.
