A new report shows the overall number of abortions is lower, but those paid for by the public are on the rise. The rate of taxpayer funded abortions in Minnesota reached an all-time high and new data shows Planned Parenthood is dominating Minnesota’s abortion industry, performing over 50% of abortions in the state.
The Minnesota Department of Health report shows while the rate of abortion in Minnesota is reaching an all time low with less than 10,000 women receiving abortions, taxpayer-funded abortions are higher than ever at more than 43%.
Executive Director of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life Scott Fischbach says that the only way to put an end to taxpayer funded abortions is for the legislature to overturn a State Supreme Court decision, explaining, “We have to overturn Doe vs Gomez if we’re going to actually get rid of taxpayer funded abortions here in Minnesota, but we have to address it.”
Fischbach says that every year lawmakers propose ending taxpayer funded abortions without success.
Republican State Representative Tim Miller weighed in on the issue saying, “I do not support the use of one dollar of taxpayer money for abortions. It is wrong that we are forcing people to pay for something so abhorrent and against their conscience. The fact this number continues to rise stuns me.”
