Somali Migrant in Minnesota Charged With Criminal Sexual Conduct

Crookston, MN – Breitbart reports that a 22-year old Somali man who recently arrived in Minnesota is facing charges of criminal sexual conduct, a felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Mohamed Harir Ayanle of Minneapolis has been charged with criminal sexual conduct after being accused of raping a woman on a bus passing through Crookston, MN on Friday, according to the Crookston Times.

Ayanle was released from Northwest Regional Correction Center Monday on a $5,000 bond with the condition that he does not leave Minnesota.

A criminal complaint filed with Minnesota’s 9th Judicial District Court in Polk County states that Ayanle “just moved to Minnesota on September 22, 2016 from Somalia.

Crookston Police received a report of criminal sexual conduct on a bus traveling from Minneapolis to Grand Forks on Friday night and were dispatched to the location of the Crookston Inn & Convention Center.  The victim told police that Ayanle had approached her while she was sitting with her daughter and invited her to watch a movie with him in the back of the bus.  Her daughter fell asleep shortly after a stop in Bemidji and the victim went to the back of the bus, where she said that Ayanle forcibly removed her clothes and raped her. She said that she went with Ayanle because he said he “had something,” which she thought was a knife, although she said she never saw a knife, according to the Crookston Times.

Ayanle told police that they had consensual intercourse and he denied threatening the victim.

RiverView Health collected a sexual assault evidence kit and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the continued investigation, the Crookston Times reported.

Crookston, located 25 miles southeast of Grand Forks, North Dakota is a city of 7,800 with a 15 person police force.
