MINNEAPOLIS – Democratic Senate candidate Richard Painter released his first campaign ad this week, comparing the Trump administration to a “dumpster fire.”
In the ad, Painter, seen standing in front of a dumpster fire, lectures viewers on having the courage to fight the “raging inferno in Washington.”
“Some people see a dumpster fire and do nothing but watch the spectacle,” Painter says in the ad. “Some are too scared to face the danger, or they think it will benefit them if they just let it keep on burning.”
“Others shrug and say, ‘All this talk about dumpster fire, it’s just fake news!'” he adds.
“There is an inferno raging in Washington, but here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, we know how to put out a fire,” Painter concludes, as a rush of water extinguishes the fire.
A dumpster fire, as Painter likens the Trump administration to, is defined by Merriam-Webster as “an utterly calamitous or mismanaged situation.”
Painter, a former Republican who served as the chief ethics lawyer for the George W. Bush administration, is hoping to fill former Sen. Al Franken’s seat. Painter has been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, appearing frequently on CNN and MSNBC to criticize the Trump administration. Painter has made Trump’s impeachment a key issue of his campaign.
Before Painter will be on the ballot in November he will have to face Sen. Tina Smith, Gov. Mark Dayton’s temporary replacement for Franken. Painter lost the DFL endorsement to Smith. The two will face off in the August 14 primary.
