Virginia, MN — A federal lawsuit involving the Virginia school district has been suspended until the United States Supreme Court issues a ruling on a similar case in its docket.

As Alpha News reported back in October, a group of families sued the Virginia school district arguing that “permitting transgender students puts the other students at risk when a biological male student uses a locker room alongside their biological female students.”

The ACLU has stepped in on behalf of the transgendered student stating that students have the right to use facilities that fall in line with their gender identity.

The Virginia school district changed their policy on transgender bathrooms following a directive from the Obama administration last year that forced public schools to acknowledge transgender students based on their gender identity or face withdrawal of federal funding.

The United States Supreme Court is currently reviewing a case in Virginia where one school district enacted a policy that would require all students to use bathrooms that corresponded with their biological gender at birth. The court is expected to hand down a ruling before the Summer.
