Minnesota once again leads the nation in voter participation for the November midterm election.

“For the second election in a row, Minnesota’s voter participation was the best in America,” Secretary of State Steve Simon said Tuesday as the state Canvassing Board finished certifying the election results.

Over 2.6 million voters cast ballots on November 6 — that is 64.25 percent of eligible Minnesota voters. Simon said the next closest state, Colorado, trailed Minnesota’s totals by more than a full percentage point.

Additionally, according to the Cook Political Report, three of Minnesota’s eight congressional districts were in the top ten districts in the nation for turnout.

The Third Congressional District, where Democrat Dean Phillips beat GOP incumbent Erik Paulsen, led the nation with 73 percent of eligible voters turning out.

Minnesota’s Fifth Congressional District, a deep blue district which Democrat Ilhan Omar easily won, was the 6th highest turnout in the nation with 69 percent.

The competitive race for Minnesota’s Second Congressional District, where Democrat Angie Craig ousted incumbent Republican Jason Lewis, also finished with 69 percent turnout among eligible voters.
