MINNEAPOLIS, MN — One Minnesota House candidate has made history as the first Somali-born individual to run for office and win.

Ilhan Omar, a 35-year-old woman has made history last night, when she overwhelmingly won in the general election to serve as a Representative for the Minnesota House.

Omar did not win without controversy. Alpha News has continued to follow a story in which evidence suggests that Ms. Omar may have circumvented immigration laws by marrying her brother.

Should Ms. Omar be found guilty ethically or criminally, she could find herself in hot water with a Republican-controlled House and Senate.

Omar won her race without opposition as her Republican challenger, Abdimalik Askar, promptly suspended his candidacy only a week after calling for investigations into the allegations involving Ms. Omar’s personal life.
