BREAKING: Emergency Court Date Set for MN Voter Eligibility Case

St. Paul, MN- The Minnesota Supreme Court granted an emergency request for a hearing regarding Secretary of State Steve Simon’s guidelines making it easier for felons to vote.

On October 28, the Minnesota Voters’ Alliance announced that a group of election judges filed three lawsuits in Hennepin, Ramsey, and St. Louis counties challenging aspects of the Secretary’s 2016 election judge guide. The section of guidelines the group is challenging relates to individuals whose eligibility is listed as questionable on poll stations’ rosters.

Voters identified as “challenged-felony,” “challenged-guardianship,” and “challenged-citizenship” will be able to self-certify their eligibility and be able to vote under Simon’s current instructions, as Alpha News reported earlier.

On Monday the Minnesota Supreme Court granted an emergency request filed by the Chief Judge of Hennepin County District Court. The three cases will be consolidated into one case to be handled by the Ramsey County Court of Appeals.

The hearing is scheduled for Friday, November 4, 2016 at 1:30 p.m at the Ramsey County District Courthouse located at 1230 Courthouse, 15 W. Kellogg Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55102. The Minnesota Voters’ Alliance will also be holding a press conference at 12:30 leading up to the hearing.

The Minnesota Supreme Court wrote “in the unusual circumstances of these matters, expedited resolution of the request is necessary, requiring expedited response to the request.”
